Salvation Army Bell Ringing--Kroger Carytown

Salvation Army Bell Ringing--Kroger Carytown

Kiwanis is joining the Salvation Army to volunteer on behalf of their Red Kettle Campaign. Bell Ringers serve two-hour shifts on Friday, December 12, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday, December 13, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Each year, The Salvation Army will serve more than 25 million people across America – including many here in your community. That means 55+ million meals for the hungry, 10+ million nights of shelter for the homeless, and countless Christmas gifts for children who may otherwise go without.

So truly, you can make a difference with every ring. The funds you raise as a Salvation Army bell ringer will make a year-round impact in your community through social services assistance, homeless shelters, disaster relief, children’s programs, rehabilitation services, anti-human trafficking, and more.

Donations in the red kettle stay local – directly impacting the lives of your neighbors by helping them in their time of need. When you ring the bell, you’re making change happen.

Interested in participating? Contact Dick Rheutan to sign up.

HELP FILL BACKPACKS AT FEED MORE

HELP FILL BACKPACKS AT FEED MORE

Join other members and guests at Feed More to help feed needy children in the community over the weekend.

When students leave school for the weekend, the last thing they should have to worry about is how they are going to get their next meal.

The Weekend BackPack Program provides children who don’t have enough to eat with nutritious, easy-to-prepare food when other resources aren’t available.

The concept is simple: children at risk of hunger receive a bag of food that is child-friendly, nutritious and nonperishable. Partnering with local schools, Weekend BackPacks are distributed every Friday so that children have meals for when school is not in session.

Kiwanis Cup Golf Tournament

Kiwanis Cup Golf Tournament

Join us for a premium golf outing to support children’s mental health.

Your partially deductible $225 entry fee includes lunch, a day of golf, celebratory banquet at The Dominion Club, and the knowledge that Richmond’s children will be more resilient thanks to your support.

2023 marks the 22nd anniversary of the Kiwanis Cup Golf Tournament. Originally inaugurated to support a summer camp for underprivileged children, the tournament has enabled the Kiwanis Club of Richmond to give more than half a million dollars to programs that benefit our community’s most vulnerable young people. We’ve raised more than $725,000 over the life of the tournament! Having celebrated our centennial celebration in 2019, the Kiwanis Club of Richmond is proud to continue this legacy of giving, with your support.

As the Kiwanis Club of Richmond’s signature annual fundraiser, the Kiwanis Cup raises awareness, friends, and funds to benefit our partner organizations that serve children in our community, especially the children most in need of help. This is why ChildSavers has been the beneficiary of the Kiwanis Cup for multiple years. Funds raised are transformed into mental health services and human resilience every day, both in our schools and in our community.

Richmond Marathon Kiwanis Water Stop
Nov

Richmond Marathon Kiwanis Water Stop

The 2022 Richmond Marathon will be held on November 12, 2022. For several decades our Kiwanis Club has been responsible for the first water stop, located on West Broad Street, between the DMV and the Science Museum buildings.

We set up about 16 8' tables and fill them with thousands of water cups and hand out to the racers as they pass by.

Many volunteers are needed to help set up, serve, rake up all the cups. We start setting up by 5:30 am; we should be cleaned up and clear of the site by 10 am. We will see many tens of thousands of runners.  It's quite the spectacle and a fun, yes, FUN, experience, despite the early hour.!

Individuals may volunteer as much time as they can, whether it's for the full time or whatever shift works for you. We especially need help to set up and clean up. The race goes on whether rain or shine, or sleet, or snow, or freezing water in the cups; volunteers should dress accordingly.

Should you have any questions, please contact Dick Rheutan at drdipstick@verizon.net.
