Virginia History Day Volunteers

  • Virginia Museum of History & Culture 428 North Arthur Ashe Boulevard Richmond, VA, 23220 United States (map)

The Virginia Museum of History & Culture is once again hosting Virginia History Day in person for elementary, middle, and high school students this spring, and they would love to have Kiwanis members help!

What is Virginia History Day? At its core, it is a historical research project. Students select a topic in history they are interested in and relate it to a yearly theme and enter their projects into History Day competitions at the district, state, and national levels.

This year the contest is spread out over two days. Elementary and middle school students will compete on Saturday, April 29 and high school students on Sunday, April 30. Each day, the contest will run from 8 am-1 pm. General volunteer duties include helping with registration, monitoring judging rooms/hallways, and other basic admin tasks.  Ideally, volunteers will be available for the entire time, but they can also take folks in am/pm shifts.

Saturday, April 29 (elementary + middle school students)

  • All day - 8:00am - 2:00pm

  • AM Shift - 8:00am - 11:00am

  • PM Shift - 11:00am - 2:00pm

Sunday, April 30 (high school students)

  • All day - 8:00am - 2:00pm

  • AM Shift - 8:00am - 11:00am

  • PM Shift - 11:00am - 2:00pm

If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please email your choice of shift(s) to Sam Florer at the VMHC at sflorer@virginiahistory.org, and copy info@richmondkiwanis.org so we can track who is volunteering.
