It is the late 1800s and Richmond is rebuilding from the destruction of the Civil War. Architect Richard A. Siewers arrives from Germany with a true entrepreneurial vision. He continues to design buildings in his new country, but also begins to build, opens up R.A. Siewers Lumber and Millwork to accommodate his building needs, and buys timberland outside of Richmond to possibly use one day in his millwork facility.
Zoom forward 140 years and Siewers Lumber & Millwork is still thriving today and continuing to follow the Golden Rule, “Do onto others as you would have done unto you,” on which R.A. founded the business in 1884. Michael Siewers, R.A’s great-grandson and fourth generation family member, joined the business in 1994 after graduating from James Madison University with a double major in marketing and management. Michael is the fifth child to Mary Ann and Freddie Siewers; he grew up in Richmond attending St. Bridget Catholic School and Benedictine High School. He is married to Beth Wetsel Siewers and they have three children who attend Veritas Classical Christian School. Michael and his family attend St. Bridget’s Church and enjoy skiing, beach days, bountiful family meals, and traveling.
