New Little Free Library Opens at The House
The partnership between the Kiwanis Club of Richmond and the Jackson Ward/Carver communities continues to grow and flourish with the Grand Opening of the Little Free Library at The House on Catherine Street.
The suggestion for this location came out of a conversation between Kiwanian Bob Rogers and Carver community leader, Jerome Legions. The Little Free Library Committee reached out to the owner of The House, Kate Stark, to discuss partnering together in a Little Free Library project. Little did we know that this meeting would be a surprise reunion for Kate and Kiwanians Jana Rairden and Robin McCallister. And just like that, we had a plan!
Saturday, October 1, Jana, Co-Chair of the Little Free Library Committee, cut the ribbon and opened the doors of the hip, new book-sharing structure that features a mural drawn by local artists, S. Ross Brown and Hamilton Glass.
The festive occasion also included remarks by Kate Stark, Jerome Legions, Kiwanis President Jim Donahue, and Bob Rogers; dancing in the streets by Hip Hop dancers from Richmond Urban Dance; and a reception for the thirty plus attendees.
