If approved by voters, Urban One and Churchill Downs would partner on a resort and casino economic development project in South Richmond.
Alfred C. Liggins III is the CEO of Urban One, Inc., one of the largest diversified media companies in the U.S. that targets Black Americans and urban consumers. Liggins is the son of Cathy Hughes who started the company with a single radio station in 1980. Urban One has now diversified into cable television and digital media which makes it the largest black-owned distributor of urban content in the country reaching more than 80% of African Americans weekly. Urban One also became a minority owner in MGM National Harbor, a gaming resort that opened in 2016 in Prince George County, Maryland. Mr. Liggins holds a MBA from the Wharton School and has served on the boards of the National Association of Broadcasters and the National Cable and Telecommunications Association.
