Major (Ret.) Richard Ramos, Benedictine College Preparatory Military Leadership Instructor and Key Club Advisor

  • Virginia Museum of History & Culture 428 South Arthur Ashe Boulevard Richmond, VA, 23220 United States (map)

Since its founding in 1911, Benedictine has been dedicated to the mission of forming Cadets as Christian men of conscience, discipline, and achievement. With a rigorous academic curriculum, an exceptional military leadership program, remarkable athletics, and distinct extracurricular activities, all supported by Catholic values, Benedictine confidently provides a holistic education experience for young men in the Richmond area. Cadets are prepared for the future by a faculty who are devoted to help each boy realize his best academic and social potential.  We strive to develop their leadership and critical thinking competences while cultivating authentic faith and spirituality.  For more than four generations, Benedictine Cadets have been making a significant positive impact in Richmond, nationally, and across the globe.  www.benedictinecollegeprep.org

Richard Ramos currently serves as a Military Leadership Instructor, a Bioethics Teacher, and the Key Club Advisor for Benedictine College Preparatory. He was recruited in 2020 to augment the school’s military cadre during a period of leadership transition and under COVID conditions.  Collectively, the dedicated and disciplined community ensured the school could remain open safely to provide in-person and hybrid instruction throughout the pandemic. Richard enjoys and strives to reinforce the rich military history and faith traditions that are characteristic of the Benedictine Schools of Richmond.

Serving others is a hallmark of Christian faith, and it is an essential component of a student’s personal development at Benedictine. Key Club International’s purpose, objectives, and core values align naturally with the character-building behaviors that Richard emphasizes on the parade deck (where Cadets muster), in the classroom, and across the community.  The Benedictine Cadets Key Club was reactivated this scholastic year and immediately grew to 55 members strong (including 45 new members). These young men have made an immediate and significant impact for the community. Check out some of their activities online at www.bcpkeyclub.com.

Richard is a combat veteran of the US Army with over 27 years of active-duty service and numerous commendations including the Bronze Star Medal and five Meritorious Service Medals.  Moreover, earning four Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medals exemplify a career and lifestyle of volunteerism dedicated to the welfare of others. Since retiring from Military Active Duty, Richard continues to serve as a youth catechist at Fort Lee and is a founding member of the Knights of Columbus council at the Benedictine Abbey, he is an active member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Boy Scouts of America, among other service-focused associations.
