The Kiwanis Club’s Diversity Committee has organized a walking tour of historic Jackson Ward on Saturday, June 4, 10 am-1 pm. Our guide, Gary L. Flowers, will provide a 20-stop tour that includes historic educational, economic, religious and social institutions that inspired the name "”Black Wall Street,” and “The Harlem of the South,” and reflects the Ward’s culturally historic past. The walk is approximately one mile at an easy pace (1.5 hours). You can learn more here: https://www.walkingtheward.com/
Following the walk, we will be hosting an optional lunch catered by Mama J’s at Ebenezer Baptist Church, was founded in 1856. There will be fellowship time and a brief discussion with the pastor on the historic and current church mission of social outreach to the Richmond community (read more here: https://www.ebenezerrva.org/). Caterer Mama J’s is a family-owned and operated restaurant and is Richmond’s premiere soul food dining experience. Options (including vegetarian) will be made available closer to the event.
