Rick Edwards became the Chief of Police for the City of Richmond, VA, in 2023. Prior to this appointment, he had nearly 24 years of experience with the Richmond Police Department. Edwards served as the Acting Chief of Police before being officially appointed, and during that time, he focused on rebuilding trust within the department and with the community. His career in law enforcement began with a passion for making a meaningful difference, and he progressed through various roles, including patrol officer, narcotics unit, and detective in the Major Crimes Division. For a significant part of his career, he was involved in homicide investigations.
