Robin Traywick Williams, Author - "Remembering the Greatest Generation"

  • Virginia Museum of History & Culture 428 South Arthur Ashe Boulevard Richmond, VA, 23220 United States (map)

Leading up to Memorial Day next Monday, author Robin Traywick Williams will share treasured stories of her father’s service in WWII, as part of the "Greatest Generation."

She is the author of two popular WWII books, The Last Romantic War: How Two Members of the Greatest Generation Survived Love and War, about her parents’ wartime romance, and Butch and Sundance Do India, the hilarious, scary account of her trip with her brother across the backroads of India to trace their father’s wartime footsteps

She provides an engaging picture of what life was like during World War II, both at home and on the battlefront in the little-known Burma Campaign. With slides and artifacts, Robin shares her research for “The Last Romantic War,” her book about her parents’ exotic global courtship, a story filled with emotion and adventure, featuring burning airplanes, runaway horses, the pain of separation and the eternal question: “Will he come home?”

The talk will include a colorful slideshow with relevant photos from the era, both in America and in Burma. Robin also brings an elaborate visual display with scrapbooks, posters, a Japanese flag and other mementos from the Burma campaign, her father’s uniform, and other interesting memorabilia. She will also relate humorous stories from her precarious road trip with her brother through the non-tourist areas of India.
