Following an extensive national search, Dr. Paul A. Levengood has been selected President of the George C. Marshall Foundation. He was most recently the Vice President for Development at the Virginia War Memorial Foundation in Richmond, Virginia and formerly the President and CEO of the Virginia Historical Society.

His time at the Virginia War Memorial coincided with the most successful fund-raising years in its two-decade history, including a $2.5-million capital campaign.
Upon his appointment Dr. Levengood stated, “The George C. Marshall Foundation has a rich history of promoting awareness of one of the seminal Americans of the twentieth century. The Foundation is poised to share General Marshall’s peerless legacy with new generations, in this country and the world. I am honored by the Foundation board’s confidence in me and excited to lead this important effort.”
Dr. Levengood has been a member of the editorial advisory board of the Encyclopedia Virginia since its inception and has served on several committees of the American Association of State and Local History as well as on the steering committee of the Future of Richmond’s Past. He is a past member of the board of the Richmond World Affairs Council and a past board member and president of the Rotary Club of Richmond. His book Virginia: Catalyst of Commerce for Four Centuries was published in 2007 and was the official quadricentennial commemorative project of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce.
A native of Philadelphia, Dr. Paul A. Levengood received his BA from Davidson College in 1993, his MA from Rice University in 1997, and his Ph.D. in history from Rice University in 1999. He has been married since 1996 to Kristin Miller Levengood, and they are the proud parents of three children: Isabel, Alexander, and Sophie.
