February is Black History Month. It’s also the 40th Anniversary of Richmond’s Black History Museum and Cultural Center. As a way for our Club to celebrate and commemorate both events, the Diversity Committee has arranged for us to tour the Black History Museum. COVID virus permitting, the date and time of our tour is Friday, February 4, at 10:30 am and is open to a group of up to 30 attendees. The tour takes about 90 minutes. Admission is $10 per person with some discounts available (admission will be “on your own” when you arrive at the museum). The museum requires masks for all attendees. Learn more about the Museum here: https://www.blackhistorymuseum.org/
Following the tour, we’re planning to visit the renowned Ebenezer Baptist Church immediately next door, where we will also enjoy a boxed lunch.
The Ebenezer Baptist Church at the corner of Judah and Leigh Streets in Historic Jackson Ward, continues to serve as “the people’s church” that loves and empowers the Jackson Ward community. This historic church family has weathered many challenges and continues to excel as a beacon in a community that was formerly known as “The Harlem of the South,” to include prosperous black-owned businesses and prominent families that built a community removed due to the erection of an interstate. You can learn more about the church here: https://www.ebenezerrva.org/
Members may choose to participate in one, two, or all three of the “facets” of this Kiwanis outing, but RSVP is required in advance so we know how many lunches to provide. Please RSVP below.
