Richmond author Alan Pell Crawford shares then groundbreaking account of the overlooked story of the battles of the American Revolution that were fought, and won, in the South. His riveting book, “This Fierce People,” tells the story of the missing three years between Monmouth and Yorktown where the war was won in battles across the South, upending the American myth that the War of Independence was fought primarily in the North. Crawford is the author of previous works of history about Thomas Jefferson, Mark Twain, and the Randolph family of Virginia. He is a journalist, political analyst, and former U.S. Senate speechwriter and congressional press secretary.
