Bob Mooney, New Richmond Ventures Co-Founder & Managing Director

Bob Mooney is a tireless champion of creativity and business acumen. An entrepreneur and co-founder of NRV, Bob counsels young businesses on accounting and financial reporting, capital strategies, equity raising, project financing, milestones, business coaching, and IT strategies. His connections to Richmond's arts and business communities provide unique opportunities for start-ups to connect and grow in this community. Bob has worked in New York City, Washington D.C., and Charlotte. He has extensive accounting, financial information and technology experience, including serving as a Partner at Coopers & Lybrand (now PWC) for over 20 years, CFO of a public company, and at William & Mary's Mason School of Business.

Bob is a Richmond native and a William & Mary graduate.  After serving in the Marine Corps, Bob joined the firm of Coopers & Lybrand (now PWC) and was a partner for 22 years, serving in leadership roles in Washington DC, New York City and Richmond.  Bob also served as CFO for Ethyl Corp. (New Market), William & Mary’s Business School and other entities.

In 2012, Bob, Jim Ukrop, and Ted Chandler formed New Richmond Ventures, providing counsel, connections and capital to high-potential entrepreneurs and start up companies. They also formed the NRV Early Stage Growth Fund and have been investing in new companies from its $33 million fund.  To date, NRV has helped 25 companies raise over $175 million in equity capital.

In late 2019, Bob joined Dr. Frank Gupton, who founded VCU’s Medicines for All, and Eric Edwards, co-founder of Kaleo, and he helped form Phlow Corp., whose mission is to reliably supply affordable, high-quality, essential medicines through U.S.-based advanced manufacturing processes.  Today, Phlow has 55 employees and has received over $200 from the US Government to build continuous manufacturing facilities in both Richmond and Petersburg and raised over $40 million in equity to grow it commercial businesses.

Thought the years, Bob has served on boards of many business, arts, entrepreneurial, and community organizations.  Today, Bob will share with us entrepreneurial ecosystem initiatives and regional economic collaborations that are transforming Richmond’s economy.
