Cathy Hamlin, Executive Administrator of Assisting Hands Richmond: The GEMS & Dementia, a Guide for Care Partners

  • Virginia Museum of History & Culture 428 South Arthur Ashe Boulevard Richmond, VA, 23220 United States (map)

Cathy Hamlin has worked in the Health Care field, in some capacity all of her adult life. Shortly after graduating from Duke University with a degree in Public Health Administration, she was placed in a temporary role as the Administrative Manager of the Emergency Department at NC Memorial Hospital, which is now the flagship hospital for the UNC Healthcare System. After 6 months in the Emergency Department, she was given an opportunity to work with the Hospital Administrators to design and then lead the team of physicians and nurses as the Administrative Manager of the Outpatient Medical Clinics. She served in this role over 15 years.

Cathy eventually left UNC to accept an opportunity with Nurse Finders, Inc establishing medical staffing branches throughout the southeast, eventually landing in Washington, DC as the Regional VP of Human Resources focusing on specialty nurse staffing for the Med Star Hospital network and The Armed Forces Retirement Home. After many years of the daily commute between Richmond and Washington, Cathy returned home to focus her efforts on making a difference in the lives of fellow Richmonders at Symphony Manor of Richmond, an Assisted Living Community in the West End.

As the Interim Executive Director at Symphony Manor, she was introduced to Home Care/Personal Care and was able to see first hand how Home Care could enhance the quality of care and Life that her residents received.

Realizing that most people prefer to “Age in Place” versus moving into Assisted Living communities, in January, 2019 she made the decision to look at other areas of healthcare where her knowledge and passion for helping others could be better utilized and she could continue with her educational path.  She then met Eric Rohr who introduced her to Assisting Hands Home Care, a start-up operation in Richmond that has offered her the chance to do all of the things she loves, rolled into one job. Working with Eric and Assisting Hands has given her the strength and courage to always move forward and to be able to assist their clients with their desires to remain at home Safe and Happy.
