Sherrie Armstrong and Brandon Butterworth, The Community Foundation

At the center of Richmond’s philanthropy for more than 50 years, the Community Foundation for a greater Richmond leverages community knowledge, relationships, and charitable assets with the goal of creating a thriving region in which all of its residents have the opportunity to succeed.  Join Sherrie Armstrong and Brandon Butterworth of the Community Foundation to learn more about the focus of the Foundation’s funding and work post-pandemic, as well as the emerging trends across the region for nonprofits and community needs.   

Sherrie Armstrong has served as the President and CEO of the Community Foundation for a greater Richmond since July 2015. The Foundation holds $1 billion in assets with a staff of 45 and an impact focus on educational success, economic prosperity, health and wellness and community vibrancy.  The Foundation holds over 900 funds and is responsible for facilitating their philanthropy and contributions across the region.  She has held executive leadership positions in the nonprofit sector for over 30 years including 26 years with United Way.  Her current board positions include Grow Capital Jobs, Chamber RVA, The Forum Club, and 757-RVA Partnership. 

Brandon Butterworth, Vice President, Philanthropic Services, works with donors, including individuals, businesses, and civic associations, throughout the region to advance their philanthropy, and connects with professional advisors to share the many ways in which the Foundation can be a resource for their charitably minded clients, including through the use of complex gifts and estate planning.  He especially enjoys sharing the Community Foundation story throughout the region, with community groups and all those with an interest in bettering their respective communities.  Brandon is a thoughtful leader and lifelong learner, who strives to better our community and region through his work, both professionally and personally.
